At Southern Renal, our practice is built on the expertise of a team of renal specialists, also known as kidney specialists or nephrologists. These titles all refer to a medical doctor who has undergone extensive specialized training in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and conditions that affect the kidneys.
A nephrologist’s role extends far beyond simply treating a failing kidney. Their expertise includes controlling conditions like hypertension (high blood pressure), which is a leading cause of kidney damage, and managing electrolyte imbalances and mineral-bone disorders that often accompany chronic kidney disease (CKD).
